Breast Augmentation Overview

Breast augmentation is a common cosmetic surgery that uses saline or silicone implants to enhance breast size and shape. It can improve body proportions, restore volume lost from pregnancy or weight changes, and increase confidence. This procedure continues to grow in popularity, especially in vibrant cities like Montreal, where many women seek aesthetic enhancement to achieve their ideal look.

Dr. Chen Lee is a trusted, board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation, providing personalized care to help patients achieve natural-looking, beautiful results.

Procedure Summary

Breast augmentation involves placing either saline or silicone implants to enhance breast size and shape. Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution, while silicone implants contain a gel that mimics natural breast tissue for a softer feel.

Implants can be placed:

Periareolar is around the areola.
Transaxillary is in the armpit.
  • Above the chest muscle (subglandular) for quicker recovery and more visible results.
  • Below the chest muscle (submuscular) for a more natural look and better coverage.

Incisions are made in one of three areas:

  • Inframammary (under the breast): Most common, offers hidden scars and better control of implant placement.
  • Periareolar (around the areola): Less noticeable, but may limit implant size.
  • Transaxillary (in the armpit): No visible scarring on the breast, but scarring occurs under the armpit. This approach can be more complex to perform.

Your surgeon will recommend the best option for your needs.

From Consultation to Recovery

Each stage of your breast augmentation journey, from consultation to follow-up, is designed to guide you toward achieving your desired results. Here’s a brief, step-by-step outline of what to expect throughout the process. Keep in mind that your experience may vary based on individual factors and needs.

  • Consultation: Discuss goals, and learn about placement and incisions. Choose implant type and size. Health assessment to ensure suitability.
  • Pre-Operative: Follow any necessary lifestyle changes, like stopping smoking or certain medications. The clinic may provide further guidelines before surgery.
  • Surgery Day: This is the day of the procedure. Someone will need to care for you after surgery.
  • Post-Operative Care: After surgery, manage discomfort, follow recovery instructions, and avoid strenuous activities. It’s recommended to have someone assist you during the early stages of recovery to ensure proper care and comfort.
